49ers Make It Through Bye Week; Looking Ahead

After a humiliating loss to the Atlanta Falcons, most of us in the 49ers media and most of us as 49ers fans found it tough to sit for a week with that taste in our mouths. Still, we made it through albeit with limited news and a ton of speculation. Here's some quick notes, a look at what to expect as the Niners move forward to a matchup with the Houston Texans.

Michael Crabtree's impact is something that garners much discussion. The 49ers rookie will see his first NFL action this Sunday and figures to be in on at least 10 snaps with a max of just under 20. Most are of the opinion that Crabtree won't factor much into any Niners success this season and I won't refute this just yet and instead leave you with a "we'll see..."

Changes on the offensive line are likely to be enforced before Sunday. The unit as a whole came into the season boasting a great offseason and many expectations. Joe Staley got a huge extension and RT seemed at least a decent step-up from last season. However the most likely change will be RG Chilo Rachal out and Tony Wragge to step up in his position. Another option could be Tony Pashos stepping in at the guard position as he didn't play it badly last season for the Jaguars. Mike Singletary has expressed his dissatisfaction from Rachal and the line as a whole, look for the change to come very soon.

SS Michael Lewis is expected to play despite having his third concussion this year. He said he feels ready and he isn't overly concerned with his concussion history. Concussions in the NFL are becoming a growing concern as players continue to get them. One other such player is LB Jeff Ulbrich, who is now thinking of retirement. It's one of the sadder things I've read during the bye week considering Ulbrich's love for the game.

That's most of what's been going on in the bye week, look for more news to surface this week as the San Francisco 49ers prepare for the Texans.
